The U lock for optimal theft protection
A U lock (sometimes also called a D lock) is one of the safest ways to protect your bike from removal or theft.
It consists of two parts: A locking cylinder and a bracket made of extra hard steel.

Using the U lock correctly
This is how you can secure your bike correctly: Guide the U lock either through spokes and frame, or use the frame tubes to secure it to a handrail, post, or similar fixed object.
You can purchase different brands of lock: check out our selection of XLC or AXA locks in different security levels.
Benefits of a U lock
When compared to other bike locks, the locks are extremely secure, robust and resistant. Unlike a frame lock, your bike cannot be easily carried away. Due to the strong shape of the bracket, it is also very difficult to break open, drill or lever open a D lock.
You can also purchase a U lock with a handy holder that makes it easy to attach your lock to the bike frame.
Disadvantages of a U lock
U locks are not very large, which means that unlike folding locks, options for locking your bike are limited.
Its fixed shape means that a U lock is not flexible. So when you buy it, make sure it's always the right size and length so that your bike can be easily attached to lampposts, garden fences or bike stands. Large D locks can be rather bulky and impractical to transport, also due to their heavy weight.
Due to the high security of the locks, their impractical form can usually be overlooked. U locks are priced between €25 and €100 and are therefore slightly cheaper than an equally secure folding lock.
