Finding the right frame bag for you
A frame bag has an integrated strap and, unlike a bike basket or bike crate, does not require any additional fittings.
You should select your frame bag based on your bike's frame size and the bike model. The classic bicycle frame bag is triangular in shape. These frame bags are attached between the top tube and the seat tube, and fit onto any classic frame, but offer relatively little space.
Alternatively, there are much larger variants, such as a frame bag that runs along the entire top tube, or a triangular bag that fills the entire front triangle on your bike. If you are interested in these models, you should first measure whether your bike is large enough.
Frame bags are most commonly made of leather, fabric, or tarpaulin material.
Frame bags for racing bikes
A racing bike frame bag is generally relatively small. They are only used to secure the most important valuables during a tour.
The larger a frame bag, the more it will tend to negatively influence your road positioning, and therefore your speed. For this reason, classic (triangular) bike frame bags are generally purchased for racing bikes. You can also use a bike smartphone holder, to navigate while riding.
MTB frame bags
A frame bag for a mountain bike is generally a little larger. Because punctures occur more frequently when riding off-road, over stony terrain, it is recommended that you bring a puncture repair kit with you.
Because a tool bag nowadays is not generally fitted onto the bicycle saddle as standard, puncture repair tools must be appropriately stowed away. This requires a little more space than that provided by a small triangular frame bag.
Frame bags for other bike models
For other bike models, such as city bikes or E-bikes, frame bags are not necessarily recommended. If you ever want to do a spot of shopping with your bike, you should consider a much larger bike bag rather than a frame bag. Options here include saddle bags or panniers, or even a bike backpack. A frame bag can thus be an additional option with which to securely transport valuables, or to use the navigation feature on your mobile phone.
